This intensive, advanced workshop is limited to five writers of fiction, memoir, or narrative nonfiction. It focuses on work-in-progress that is already under contract or with publishing potential.  Meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons for three hours, over a period of five weeks.  A minimum of one-half hour is devoted to each writer each week.  Work is circulated before the meeting—a maximum of 15 pages per writer.  All participants print out and edit all work, and come to the meeting prepared for discussion.  Edited manuscripts are returned to their authors. There are no exercises, no reading aloud. The workshop is collegial in spirit, offering each writer five excellent readers, line editing and written comments, as well as invaluable discussion and brainstorming.

Manuscripts that have gone through the workshop will soon be published by Touchstone/Simon & Schuster; Little, Brown; Harmony/Crown; The Free Press; and in Prairie Schooner, Berkeley Fiction Review, Jabberwock, and other excellent quarterlies.

Karen Braziller is co-founder and Editorial Director of Persea Books, an independent literary publishing house distributed by W. W. Norton. Among the authors whose books she has acquired and edited are Oscar Hijuelos, Joyce Carol Oates, James McConkey, Pablo Medina, Susan Fromberg Schaeffer, Jean Said Makdisi, Gary Soto, Meg Kearney, Sonia Pilcer, and Elizabeth Jolley.
